The idea

Most journaling and habit apps ask for too much: long entries, endless prompts and complicated setups. People stop using them within a week. One Update A Day is built around a single, deliberately small habit: tap the areas of life you showed up for today, add an optional note, and you're done.

Six life pillars (Connection, Health, Sleep, Passion, Growth and Meaning) turn those daily taps into a clear picture of how your time and energy are balanced over days, weeks and months.

Features

What we built

30-second check-ins

One quick daily update with an optional note and mood, designed to fit into real life rather than add to a to-do list.

Six life pillars

Connection, Health, Sleep, Passion, Growth and Meaning, each with guidance on what counts towards it.

Progress and insights

Timelines, balance percentages and streaks that show patterns over time without spreadsheets.

Daily reminders

Gentle push notifications that bring people back at the right time to build the habit.

Subscriptions

Monthly and yearly plans with a free trial, managed through RevenueCat across both app stores.

Sign in with Apple and Google

Fast, passwordless sign-in and secure cloud sync, so progress is never lost when changing phones.

What we learned

  • Retention is designed, not bolted on. The whole product is shaped around making the daily habit as small as possible, then reminding people at the right moment.
  • Subscription apps live or die on the first session. Onboarding, the paywall and the trial need as much attention as the core feature.
  • Shipping to both app stores as a solo builder is very achievable with Expo, provided store listings, privacy policies and review guidelines are planned from day one.
